Fresh collaboration from prolific Hackney-based producer Raz Olsher and Ghiania master musician Alfa Sackey present their own take on Afro House. Lush vocal harmonies, infection grooves and elegant organic production, their work is a cosmic journey through the entire African continent and beyond.
Raz Olsher & Afla Sackey: a bond that fuels a dynamic and effortless musical relationship. Their music represents a harmonious union of African influences with electronic music, full of soul, vibrant energy and captivating rhythms.
Originally from Tel Aviv, Raz, owner of Fossil Studios is an award-winning, chart topping, multi-platinum producer. His repertoire includes a broad range of solo electronic music productions while also lending his refined ear to composing and producing for other artists including Basement Jaxx, Sam Lee’s Mercury-nominated album and Lamar, among many more. Afla’s background as a session musician for artists such as Ginger Baker, Sun Ra, Oren Marshall, Osibisa, Ibibio Sound Machine, Tony Allen and later, as a dancer, embodies his lineage. Work with Sadler’s Wells and the Royal Festival Hall are among his many proud achievements to date.
A steady flow of releases came out of their studio activity; with releases on Beating Heart, to Mo Black’s Afro Zone and their own Fossil Sounds imprint now finding a home with Parisian label Mawimbi Records. The balance between Raz’s production style and Afla’s Afrocentric flavours ignited dance floors and earned the duo a glowing reputation from the very beginning. Their debut album; ‘The Cycle’ came out late 2022 and has gained critical acclaim from the likes of Gilles Peterson, Lauren Lavern, Jamz Supernova and was play listed on BBC Radio 6,1Xtra, FIP, Radio Nova and many others worldwide. With their second album 'Echoes of Resistance' coming out in 2024 on Wah Wah 45's, Raz & Afla displayed their ability to expand their sound and their reach. Performances at Glastonbury, Boomtown and Womad exuded energy, passion and excitement resulting in demand for a short UK tour in late 2024.
As remixers, Raz & Afla developed their own take of the art from with dance floor fillers for artists such as Glass Animals, Batida and Crate Classics.
Raz & Afla’s innovative, multi cultural approach to music was recognised by the National Lottery Arts Council as they were rewarded a grant to continue their work of building bridges through music and dance.
